Even though economic times may be tough, now is the time to invest in our schools and kids.

The Auburn School District Board of Directors is putting two propositions before voters on Tuesday, March 10th. One is a School Bond and the other is a Capital Improvements Levy. Both need your support. Click here to find out how these propositions will impact your property taxes.

Proposition #1: School Improvement Bond
Three of our aging schools need to be replaced since it costs too much to repair them and make improvements. If approved, Proposition #1 will replace the following three schools on their existing sites:

  • Auburn High School projected construction to begin 2011 and new school to open fall 2013 (Cost to repair and make improvements would be 72% of the cost to rebuild.)

  • Olympic Middle School to begin construction in  2012 and open fall 2014 (Cost to repair and make improvements would be 118% of the cost to rebuild.)

  • Terminal Park Elementary to begin construction in 2011 and open fall 2012 (Cost to repair and make improvements would be 102% of the cost to rebuild.)

Proposition #2: Capital Improvements Levy
Attending school in the Auburn District is vastly different from one student to another. While one student attends a modern classroom with up-to-date learning facilities, another student attends one that is aging and in need of repair.

If approved, the Capital Improvements Levy will provide funds for much needed repairs and improvements at 18 schools and six support facilities. What will Proposition #2 do if approved?

Save money over the long run

• Replace old roofs, old equipment, and deteriorating utility lines
• Put energy conservation measures in place

Ensure our kids’ safety

• Make sure buildings are "earthquake ready"
• Make sure parking lots have safe access
• Upgrade emergency systems
• Upgrade door locks, etc.

Provide healthy classrooms

• Improve air and water quality
• Remodel health rooms, restrooms, and locker rooms

Create better learning environments

• Upgrade classrooms and teaching equipment
• Improve heating and cooling

Improve overall facility operations

• Upgrade plumbing, electrical, etc.
• Upgrade kitchens and remodel office and storage areas
• Improve building access for persons with disabilities

Support physical activity and community use

• Upgrade playgrounds and athletic facilities

Please vote YES for both of these school propositions so that ALL kids throughout our district will have access to the same quality of education.
